I've been a little slow with my posts lately due to some crazy busy days/weeks. One of our recent favorites was being a part of the Rescue Party for our faithful, hard-working (walking!) ward Pioneers who took on the challenge of re-enacting the handcart companies and their incredible journey across Wyoming in those freezing winter months. Jesse and I had been asked to be a 'Ma' and 'Pa' for a group of youth on the trek; however, due to the condition of my hips so far in this pregnancy, we had to pull out and take on a less active role as part of the rescue party. It brought tears of joy and appreciation to my eyes (and even Jonah's) to run across the field as we watched the youth and leaders reach their destination while pushing and pulling handcarts across the rough terrain. Each person on the trek had been assigned an actual pioneer along with some very personal accounts and stories to tie them to the individual and experience. The little bit we were blessed to experience with them was powerful and so humbling. It was fun to bring in the 'rescue breakfast' and watch how much a group of hungry youth could appreciate a good meal (I never thought it was possible to pack that much food into a breakfast burrito!). How incredibly blessed we feel to live in a place established by such incredible people with a faith beyond comprehension. It is because of them that we have so much! We hope to be more like them in our own trials of faith and perserverance.
